Cantina Cooperativa di Venosa was founded in 1957, thanks to the initiative of 27 promoters, with the aim of enhancing the symbolic vine of Basilicata, Aglianico del Vulture. Today, this winery has more than 500 members, establishing itself as a point of reference throughout Italy for the vinification of Aglianico grapes.
The cultivated area is about 800 hectares, with land located in Venosa, one of the chosen areas of Aglianico, in the center of the homonymous D.O.C. "Aglianico del Vulture". This municipality is in the northern part of Basilicata, in the province of Potenza, in the high and medium hills near Mount Vulture, a volcano, now extinct, active until the upper Pleistocene, which has shaped and defined the nature of the surrounding area.
The volcanic origin of the soil, its richness, the average altitude and the microclimate, positively influenced by the volcano and the breezes, coming from the coasts, which lower the temperature in the summer period are the natural factors that allow Aglianico grapes to find a perfect habitat in this area. Not surprisingly, the municipality of Venosa is one of the largest producers of Aglianico grapes in the entire Region.
Aglianico del Vulture D.O.C. "Vignali" Cantina di Venosa is, with its "Superiore" version, the most important red wine of the cooperative, an excellent representative of this D.O.C. of Basilicata.
The grapes, 100% Aglianico, are harvested in the first part of October, carefully selected and hand-picked in the early hours of the morning. After pressing, they are subjected to maceration, at a controlled temperature (23 ° -26 ° C), for about a week, with alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in steel tanks. The aging of the wine takes place in oak barrels for about 10 months and in the bottle for about 3 months.
The organoleptic characteristics are those typical of the environment in which the Aglianico grapes are grown ...
Aglianico del Vulture D.O.C. "Vignali" Cantina di Venosa 2019 is a ruby red wine with garnet reflections. On the nose, thanks to a careful vinification process, it presents the typical aromas of the grape: fruity notes of currant and berries, floral aromas of violets, spicy and vinous hints. The taste is dry, structured and of excellent alcohol content (14% vol.). It is sapid and basically mineral, like the volcanic soils of origin. It is long and persistent with a slight bitter note on the finish. The sum of these characteristics determines a harmonious, balanced and pleasant taste experience. Finally, the product has a great longevity.
This Aglianico is a wine that wants important meat dishes, roasts and game, or aged cheeses. It prefers second courses, but it can also go well with first courses with very rich and important meat sauces.
The value for money is excellent and represents one of its strengths!
