Bardolino D.O.C. Le Vigne di San Pietro

When summer comes and we want to drink a good glass of red wine, we go to our cellar and we take what we consider a wine so versatile and pleasant to drink fresh, even with fish cooking. We’re talking about the Bardolino.

As we read in its production disciplinary: "The essential characteristics of Bardolino are constituted by freshness, aromas of small fruits and spices, considerable drinkability and matchability, youthful character".

In particular, we are talking about Bardolino produced by Le Vigne di San Pietro, one of the reference wineries of the D.O.C. Bardolino. We drank it fresh and we reviewed the 2020 vintage. We recommend it for this period of the year!

Le Vigne di San Pietro is a winery that for over 40 years has been engaged in the production of typical wines of the Bardolino area, in the eastern part of Veneto, near the border with Lombardy and the province of Brescia. Founded in 1980 by Sergio and Franca Nerozzi, today the winery is wisely managed by his son Carlo Nerozzi, an architect who, since always, has cultivated the passion for viticulture. Carlo collaborates with the agronomist, winemaker and friend Federico Giotto.

Le Vigne di San Pietro is located in Sommacampagna, one of the most important municipalities of the D.O.C. Bardolino, on the morainic hills of the eastern shore of Garda Lake, in the province of Verona, in Veneto. Here there are soil and climatic conditions particularly suitable for the cultivation of vines. Thanks to the proximity of Garda Lake and the Monte Baldo massif, the climate is temperate-Mediterranean, characterized by warm summers, but not too much, and rather mild winters. In addition, the vineyards are grown in a park rich in tree varieties that form a varied ecosystem that favors the practice of winemaking. The soil is clayey-calcareous, rich in minerals.

Le Vigne di San Pietro is spread over about 10 hectares. 4 are dedicated to the vineyard "San Pietro", which gives its name to the winery. The varieties cultivated are those typical of the area: Garganega, Trebbiano and Trebbianello, among white berried grapes, Corvina and Rondinella, among the black berried ones. The vines Manzoni Bianco, Cortese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are also cultivated. The production focuses on the typical appellations and wines of the area, mainly wines of D.O.C. Custoza and D.O.C. Bardolino. Among these wines there is the Bardolino D.O.C. Vigne di San Pietro.

This red wine is made from Corvina veronese, Rondinella and a small percentage of Merlot grapes, selected and harvested by hand in October. Cooled after harvesting, to promote the concentration of aromatic components, the grapes are destemmed and pressed. The fermentation takes place in steel with maceration on the skins for 8-10 days. Also the aging takes place in steel to bring out the varietal aromas of the original vines: 6 months in steel tanks and 3 months in bottle.

Let’s taste the 2020 vintage of this wine.

Bardolino D.O.C. Le Vigne di San Pietro

Bardolino D.O.C. Le Vigne di San Pietro 2020 is a brilliant ruby red wine. Its bouquet is fruity and very varied. On the olfactory examination we perceive sensations recalling cherry, strawberry, raspberry and blackberry. We also perceive fine spicy hints, especially cinnamon. The fruitiness pervades every moment of the tasting and represents the most characteristic feature of this wine. The palate is fresh, very drinkable, with a saline-sapid taste, trademark of the wines of Garda Lake.

It is a wine to drink young, daily and of a pleasant simplicity.

We advise you to serve it at 10-12 ºC to enjoy it to the fullest, even with tasty and important fish dishes.
