Tenuta di Frassineto is specialized in the cultivation of this vine, vinified in a series of very interesting variations and interpretations. The wine called "Le Fattorie" is one of these spectacular versions. We tasted the vintage 2020 and this is our report.

Tenuta di Frassineto is located in the heart of the Val di Chiana, in the province of Arezzo, in Frassineto. It is a large property of about 500 hectares, characterized by a beautiful residence, dating back to the sixteenth century, surrounded by 8 hectares of park and about 30 hectares of vineyards.

The estate has an enormous historical value. It was home to great personalities such as the painter-artist Giorgio Vasari, the Grand Duke of Tuscany and Count Sidney di James (Joachim) Hertz, who became Count of Frassineto.

After a careful analysis of the soil and climate characteristics of the territory, the winery has identified the vines that are best expressed in this area, characterized by loam-clay soils with a sandy component at an average altitude of 250 meters above sea level. This led to the definition of the vines cultivated in the 30 hectares of vineyards of Tenuta di Frassineto, with international varieties occupying a prominent place alongside the main local varieties. Of these 30 hectares, 18 hectares are dedicated to the cultivation of white grapes, Semillon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Pinot Blanc, among international vine, and Vermentino as a local vine; 12 hectares are dedicated to the cultivation of red grapes, the typical Sangiovese and the international Syrah, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The latter is present in the blend of most of the red wines produced by Tenuta di Frassineto and it is vinified alone in the "Podere del Vento" Tenuta di Frassineto and in the wine "Le Fattorie" Tenuta di Frassineto.

Le Fattorie 2020 is a Cabernet Franc I.G.T. Toscana made from 100% Cabernet Franc grapes. The vinification process consists of cold maceration of 3-4 days, fermentation at a controlled temperature of 21-22 ºC, maturation for 8 months in 500 litre French oak barrels with malolactic fermentation, aging on solid residues of fermentation and then in bottle.

Now let’s go to the tasting.

The Cabernet Franc Le Fattorie Tenuta di Frassineto 2020 is a deep ruby red color. On the nose we perceive aromas of red berries, blueberry and black cherry, accompanied by smoky and spicy notes, pepper, typical of the grape, and sweet spices. On the palate, the main organoleptic characteristic we perceive is softness, as a consequence of the presence of silky tannins. The structure is excellent, not excessively powerful, with a good alcohol content (13.5% vol.). Finally, we perceive a slight acidic vein that gives a certain freshness to the palate.

We can say that we tasted a balanced wine, with attention to every detail, of first quality and able to bring out the typical traits of the vine of origin.

We match it with pasta dishes with meat sauce but also with grilled meat.
