We are sure that many people ask themselves these questions. Many enthusiasts ask us for advice or suggestions on this topic, before choosing wines to give as gifts in our online wine shop. For this reason, we have written an article in which we clarify how many bottles of wine you should give as gifts.

The number of bottles to give as a gift varies depending on the situation. There is no univocal answer to this question, valid in every case. Rather, there is a general answer, provided by the Wine Etiquette, with a series of exceptions that depend on different factors.

We would like to point out that we are not dealing with the question of the number of bottles to bring to an informal dinner, which strictly depends on the number of guests, but of the wine to give as a gift for a wedding, a graduation, a birthday, for Christmas greetings, for a special anniversary or for a special occasion.

According to the Wine Etiquette, the answer to the question "how many bottles of wine to give as a gift?" is the following:

➡️ The ideal number of bottles to give as a gift is two (or multiples of two). In fact, wine is given in pairs.

Specifically,

➡️ the two bottles to be given as gifts must be the same.

For this reason, on our site we also have gift packs of two identical wines.

Let's take an example to clarify this rule. Imagine you have chosen to give Franciacorta Brut La Gerla as a gift to a friend who has just graduated. You search for the wine, find it on our wine sales site and add it to your cart. You read our article and then decide to give TWO bottles of this wine as a gift.

Why is wine given in pairs?

➡️ Wine is given in pairs because if one of the two bottles has a problem or a defect, there is a second one to allow the recipient to appreciate that wine.

If one bottle is defective it doesn't make a great impression, but, at least, there is a second bottle to allow the recipient to drink that wine at its best.

And what if you want to give two or more types of wines as a gift? The important thing is to do it in pairs. For example, if you wanted to give the three types of Franciacorta from La Gerla, in addition to the Franciacorta Brut La Gerla, also the Franciacorta Rosé La Gerla and the Franciacorta Saten La Gerla, the total number of wines to give would be 6: 2 for each type.

Finally, the last clarification. This is the “ideal” number of bottles to give as a gift. There are special wines that, for budget reasons, may not be given as a gift in pairs. In these cases, you can also give a single bottle. These are extreme and subjective cases, dependent on the sender's intentions.

How many bottles of Magnum wine should you give as a gift?

When you decide to give wine as a gift, in many cases you choose a Magnum wine or wines in bottles with a larger capacity than the standard, precisely because they are in special formats suitable for celebrations and special occasions.

Does the two-bottle rule still apply to Magnum wines? The answer is: it depends...

In this case, just one bottle would be enough. In fact, in most cases, those who decide to give a bottle in Magnum format, give only one bottle because they are usually more expensive. This does not mean that giving two bottles of Magnum of the same wine is a mistake, on the contrary, it will be particularly appreciated.

In short, the rule of two bottles can also apply to Magnum wines, but it is not as rigid as in the case of standard bottles.
