Ramoino is an important family-run winery in Western Liguria, founded in the 1950s by Giuseppe Ramoino. One of the specificities and strengths of this winery is the possibility of counting on three different locations and vineyards distributed in the most suitable areas of the western part of Liguria. The main cellar is located in Sarola, a very small hamlet of Chiusavecchia, while the other two cellars are located in Pieve di Teco and Dolceacqua, all in the province of Imperia. The winery vineyards are located in Dolceacqua and Camporosso, where the typical local vine, Rossese, is grown, giving life to the Rossese di Dolceacqua D.O.C.; in Sarola, Bestagno, Borgomaro and Ortovero, where Pigato and Vermentino are produced; and in Pornassio, home of the Ormeasco vine. All the plots are located in hilly areas at altitudes reaching up to 800 metres above sea level, excellently exposed and characterized by a steep slope and, for this reason, organized in classic terraces. The climate, thanks to the proximity of the sea and the protection guaranteed by the nearby mountain ranges, is mild, perfect for qualitative viticulture.
The aim of Ramoino is to cultivate the typical grapes of this area of Liguria in the best and classic areas. In this way, it is possible to obtain high quality wines, capable of enhancing the local varieties.
Among these varieties there is Ormeasco, a vine belonging to the Dolcetto family, which finds its natural habitat in some areas of the province of Imperia, Pornassio in particular. Here Ormeasco has a thousand-year tradition! From its grapes Ramoino obtains the wine of a very typical D.O.C. of Western Liguria: the D.O.C. Pornassio/Ormeasco di Pornassio.
Ormeasco di Pornassio D.O.C. Ramoino is produced between Pornassio, where the vineyard for cultivating the grapes is located, and Pieve di Teco, another municipality of the D.O.C., where the cellar for their winemaking is located. The production process follows the classic phases of red winemaking and it is carried out in steel containers to preserve the primary aromas of the grape variety.
Let's taste this oenological pearl.
Ormeasco di Pornassio D.O.C. Ramoino 2021 is a bright and intense ruby red wine. On the nose it highlights pleasant notes of ripe red fruit, in particular we notice a very pleasant and delicate hint of cherry. There are also vinous hints that enrich the aromatic panorama of this wine. On the palate it is warm, full-bodied, with soft tannins and a fresh and light savory vein that makes the sip harmonious and balanced. The finish is persistent, fruity and typically bitter. In short, a wine that makes olfactory and gustatory pleasure its strong point, as Dolcetto wants.
It is perfect with first courses with stuffed pasta, even enriched with sauces and important condiments, but it is also excellent with fish cooked on the grill or in its tastier versions.
