Negro family is linked to the territory of Roero, in particular to Monteu Roero, in the province of Cuneo. In a land register dating back to 1670 there are references to some plots, cultivated with vines, belonging to Giovanni Dominico Negro. Curiously, the extract of that document is on the label of Negro wines. The goal is not to forget the age-old history of the family and the innate passion for this profession.
At the beginning of the twentieth century, thanks to Angelo Negro, and then, in the eighties of the twentieth century, thanks to his son Giovanni, Negro winery expands and asserts itself as a leading wine reality of Roero, but also known internationally. Today, the activity continues to be "family" with Giovanni Negro as the guide.
The vineyards of the winery extend for about 70 hectares, where the best local vines are cultivated: Arneis and Favorita, among the white grape varieties, Nebbiolo, Barbera d'Alba and Dolcetto d'Alba, among the black grape varieties.
In particular, in the area called "Prachiosso", in Sant'Anna di Monteu Roero, Nebbiolo finds very fertile soil. Located at an altitude of about 320 meters above sea level, with soils with a limestone-clay component, in a position excellently exposed to the sun, this plot produces really rich grapes, from which are obtained wines with a marked aromaticity and excellent structure.
The term "Prachiosso" comes from the Latin "Pratum chiusum", which means "closed meadow", because the vineyard is surrounded by a natural amphitheater that creates a truly suggestive scenery.
Now that you know what the name of the wine means, let’s see how Prachiosso Roero D.O.C.G. Angelo Negro 2018 is produced. Made from Nebbiolo grapes (about 98%) with a minimum percentage of Arneis grapes (about 2% of the total), harvested by hand between the first and the second decade of October, this red wine is produced with a vinification process that involves fermentation with maceration, at controlled temperature, followed by a refinement of about 20 months between wooden barrels and bottle, before being put on the market.
Let’s drink this wine!
Prachiosso Roero D.O.C.G. Negro 2018 has an intense ruby red color. Its bouquet of aromas is typical of the Nebbiolo grape, with red fruits, such as strawberry and raspberry, enriched with floral notes of geranium and spicy sensations. On the palate emerge structure (14% vol.), softness, enhanced by silky tannins, sapidity and minerality, the result of the rich and suitable soils where its grapes are grown. It is persistent. On the finish we feel those fruity and spicy sensations that we perceive to the nose.
We match it with first courses with meat sauces. It is also excellent with mature cheeses and red meat.
