Principe di Corleone is a Sicilian winery led by the Pollara family. It was Giuseppe Pollara, back in 1892, who started the family business, gathering around him a series of small landowners, animated by the desire to exploit the fruits of their land and to collaborate in the development of local viticulture and enology. This spirit of association is one of the distinctive features of the winery, which, over time, has experienced a process of expansion, with the acquisition of new land, modernization and evolution, culminated in 1979 with the construction of the wine cellar.

In 2004, thanks to the commercial success of its wines and the constant improvement of techniques and winemaking processes, the family founded the brand Principe di Corleone, which refers to the previous feudal character of the land where the main body of the winery is located, in Contrada Malvello, in Monreale, in the province of Palermo. Today, Principe di Corleone is led by the fourth generation of the family, with Vincenzo and Lea Pollara. Even the sons of Vincenzo, Leoluca and Pietro, after a course of study, joined the organization. In 2021, Principe di Corleone joined the SOStain Project with the adoption of sustainable policies for the respect of the ecosystem.

The vineyard lands extend for about 200 hectares, of which 60 are owned by the winery. The remaining vineyards are cultivated in collaboration with small winemakers, according to the rules of a specific internal regulation to enhance the local wine products. The cultivated varieties are those typical and autochthonous of the area, Nero d'Avola, Nerello Mascalese, Grillo, Catarratto and Inzolia, to which are added international vines, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc.

Nero d'Avola by Pollara is one of the great classics of Sicilian enology. Produced in purity from Nero d'Avola grapes to make the potential of this vine better known, cultivated with low yields to bring out all its qualities. Fermentation with maceration takes place in steel at a controlled temperature of 28° C, for about 10 days. The following practices are: malolactic fermentation, aging in oak for 7 months and for 4 months in the bottle.

Principe di Corleone Nero d'Avola Pollara

The Principe di Corleone Nero d'Avola Sicilia D.O.C. Pollara 2021 is a ruby red wine with intense violet reflections. The bouquet of aromas is varied, as is typical for this variety: cherry, wild berries, violet and cloves, with spicy hints of licorice and woody notes resulting from the aging in barrique. The taste is soft, full-bodied, velvety, with a good structure (13% vol.) and with a good acidity which reveals a good aging potential. The finish is persistent, slightly fruity and very pleasant.

In our opinion, a wine from main meat dishes or first courses with important seasonings.
