Roero Arneis Bric Cenciurio
Located on the orographic left of the Tanaro River, in south-western Piedmont, in the province of Cuneo, Roero, together with the Langhe and Monferrato, is the most important wine territory of one of the Italian regions with the greatest wine tradition, UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014. In this area are mainly cultivated two autochthonous varieties: Nebbiolo, among the black berried varieties, and Arneis, among the white berried varieties.
Today’s review is of one of the white wines made from Arneis grapes, produced by a winery specialized in the cultivation of this vine and in the production of its wines. We are talking about Bric Cenciurio and its Roero Arneis D.O.C.G. vintage 2022.

Bric Cenciurio was founded in the nineties of the twentieth century by Franco Pittatore and his brother-in-law Carlo Sacchetto, who decide to combine their properties to create a winery that extends between the Langhe and Roero. Currently the winery is run by Franco’s sister, Fiorella, Alessandro and Alberto Pittatore and his uncle Carlo Sacchetto, with the collaboration of the enologist Gianfranco Cordero. The name of the winery, which is located on the hills of Barolo, refers to the "bric", which in Piedmont indicates the top of a hill, called "Cenciurio", located in Castellinaldo, in the province of Cuneo, very suitable for the cultivation of the Arneis vine.
The 12 hectares of property are developed in Barolo, Magliano Alfieri and Castellinaldo. In Barolo is cultivated Nebbiolo, in Magliano Alfieri is cultivated Barbera grape, while Castellinaldo is the "home" of Arneis. Among the cultivated varieties there are other autochthonous varieties, such as Dolcetto, Freisa and Brachetto, and international varieties such as Pinot Nero and Chardonnay.
In the complex of Bric Cenciurio wines, the historical and most representative one is Roero Arneis, the first to be marketed, from 1996, and vinified also in an interesting version "Vendemmia Tardiva", Vendemmia Tardiva "Sito dei Fossili" Bric Cenciurio, on sale since 1998 and made from overripe bunches of Arneis grapes, attacked by noble rot "Botrytis Cinerea".
Roero Arneis Bric Cenciurio comes from a careful selection of the best Arneis grapes grown in the hilly vineyards of Castellinaldo, located at an altitude of about 220 meters above sea level. Here the soil is characterized by a limestone matrix and it is rich in microelements. The harvest takes place in the first ten days of September, with the grapes being placed for 15 days in cold storage at 0 ºC to ensure that the aromatic substances can be concentrated in the juice. After pressing, fermentation begins, at low temperature and strictly in steel barrels to preserve the aromatic qualities of the grape. Also the aging takes place in steel, with the fine lees brought back in suspension that give part of their aromatic and gustatory components.
Let’s taste the 2022 vintage.
Roero Arneis D.O.C.G. Bric Cenciurio 2022 is a white wine with a straw yellow color. The nose has the aromatic notes typical of the grape. Fruity hints of apple, peach and exotic fruit are clearly perceived, accompanied by notes of white flowers. These sensations are also felt on the finish, long and persistent, with hints that recall the almond. The palate is rich and mineral, rightly savory and full-bodied, supported by an important structure (13.5%).
This wine should be served for an original aperitif or with not too important first courses and without too tasty condiments. In our opinion it is a perfect wine with white meat.
