The best sparkling wines for the Christmas menu
The Christmas meal is a special occasion that deserves to be prepared and organized with the utmost care, above all, the choice of dishes on the menu and the wines to pair with them.
Italian sparkling wines should always be present. And for great fans they can be served throughout the meal. You just need to choose the right ones at the right time. Here are the best Italian sparkling wines to pair with the Christmas menu: from aperitif to dessert.
Sparkling wines for aperitifs and appetizers
The Christmas meal should be opened with one of those bottles capable of surprising the diners.
For this reason, whether your menu includes an aperitif or directly an appetizer, you should focus on iconic and prestigious Italian bubbles. With classic savory appetizers, with cured meats that are not too spicy, ham and mortadella for example, with cheeses, not too mature or blue-veined, especially with Parmigiano Reggiano, or with fish canapés and seafood appetizers, we obviously recommend the Prosecco or a Franciacorta Brut. These wines, thanks to their fine and elegant perlage, their pleasantness and elegance of aromas, will be able to enhance the initial part of the meal.
Sparkling wines for first courses
If your Christmas menu includes fish-based first courses there is no doubt: Prosecco Brut. Of course, this wine can also be a great classic for an aperitif, but once uncorked you can continue with it for the first and second seafood courses (but not with dessert!).
In any case, its elegant floral aromas and its harmonious taste are perfect with pasta or risotto with seafood, but also based on vegetables, mushrooms or truffles.
Among the excellences of Italian sparkling wines perfect with the first courses we also suggest the Trento DOC Brut. You'll make a great impression!
Sparkling wines for second courses
For second courses, we suggest two great labels: Franciacorta Satèn for fish dishes, especially fried fish, and white meats; while Franciacorta Rosè for tastier fish main courses.
If your menu includes white meats, there are also other solutions: you can uncork a Blanc de Noir, classic method from Pinot Noir grapes, or a Trento DOC Brut Riserva Millesimato, full, savory and soft and with a strong personality.
Sparkling wines for dessert
The sweet bubbles are served with dessert. Sweet with sweet is our motto and it should also be respected at Christmas. The bottle we recommend is Asti Spumante, with a strong characteristic aroma of Moscato and a sweet and delicate flavour. It's fantastic with pandoro, panettone and any other Christmas dessert.
The Valdobbiadene Superiore di Cartizze is also excellent. A top Prosecco, from a very fine cru concentrated in a very small area in the municipality of Valdobbiadene. It is able to embellish every dessert.
