Traminer Aromatico Jermann

Symbol of Friulian viticulture for more than a century, Jermann is known throughout Italy and the world for the production of iconic white wines, among unique masterpieces signed by Silvio Jermann and typical labels of the highest quality. In this last category we can include the Gewürztraminer or Traminer, if you like, of the winery. A wine obtained from the aromatic vine characteristic of the North-East of our Country, which in Friuli Venezia Giulia finds an ideal environment. If the wine is made by an illuminated cellar, the result can only be exciting.

Here is the review of the Jermann Traminer, vintage 2020.

Jermann is one of the most important wineries in Northern Italy, certainly in Friuli Venezia Giulia. It was founded in Farra d'Isonzo, in the province of Gorizia, in 1881, by Anton Jermann, just moved from Austria. In the early decades of the 20th century, Angelo Jermann continued the family tradition. Starting in 1971, it was Silvio Jermann who took the reins of the family winery, after obtaining his degree in oenology and after living for several years in Canada.

Silvio carried out a process of renewal and modernization of the winery and the production of a series of brilliant labels, which have become iconic, such as Vintage Tunina, since the harvest of 1975, one of the first blends of international and autochthonous white grapes: Sauvignon and Chardonnay with Ribolla Gialla and Malvasia Istriana. Its success was worldwide, contributing decisively to the success of the winery all over the world.

Today Jermann has about 200 hectares of land: 170 hectares are dedicated to the cultivation of vines. In the vineyards of the winery are cultivated typical or autochthonous vines, Malvasia, Ribolla Gialla, Gewürztraminer, Picolit and Pignolo, but also great international vines, Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir. The winery is spread over two estates: Tenuta di Villanova di Farra d'Isonzo, in Gorizia, and Tenuta di Ruttars, in Dolegna del Collio, also in Gorizia, inaugurated in 2007, together with a very modern wine cellar. Jermann is located in the fertile territory of the Collio, that hilly area located between the Julian Alps, the Adriatic Sea and the river Isonzo. The great commitment to environmental sustainability both in the vineyard and in the cellar is one of the distinctive features of the winery. This commitment has led to a series of prestigious international awards.

The Traminer Aromatico Jermann is part of the classic line of Jermann wines, produced from the 1974 harvest and obtained from the grape Gewürztraminer, typical of this area. The harvest takes place in September and then follows the classic process of white wine making. The wine is aged on the lees, for about 10 months, in steel tanks and then continues its aging in bottle. Stelvin screw cap closure was chosen to preserve the aromatic and organoleptic qualities of the nectar, avoiding any interference of the cork.

Let’s go to the tasting.

Traminer Aromatico Jermann

The Traminer Aromatico Jermann 2020 has an intense and brilliant straw yellow color with golden reflections. The nose shows all its varied and elegant aromas, not disappointing our expectations. We perceive notes of exotic fruit, in particular pineapple and litchi, hints of aromatic herbs and rose petals and spicy sensations of cinnamon. The palate is persistent, perfectly balanced, soft and, at the same time, endowed with a nice refreshing power. It is noted for a slightly bitter aftertaste and for a great personality, supported by a good structure (13.5% vol.).

A wine that can be served with tasty first courses, in particular with pasta dishes with vegetables, with white meat dishes and with important fish dishes. Excellent also with soft cheeses, but not excessively aged.
