Cantina Gallura is a cooperative founded in 1956 and located in Tempio Pausania, in the province of Sassari, at the foot of Mount Limbara. The cooperative winery aims to carry on the thriving and centuries-old wine-growing tradition of Alta Gallura, which has always been a perfect terroir for the cultivation of Vermentino, thanks to the rocky-granitic subsoil, the Mediterranean climate, the excellent and constant exposure to sun which mitigates temperatures in the winter period, allowing perfect ripening of the grapes, proximity to the sea and salty winds which preserves the health integrity of the bunches.
Vermentino di Gallura represents the predominant part of the winery's wine production, in 6 different versions, 2 basic versions, 2 Superior versions, including the Canayli, an interesting sparkling version and a particular Late Harvest version. Among the cultivated varieties there are also the local and autochthonous Cannonau, Caricagiola, Moscato and Pascale. Curiously, the Cantina Gallura also successfully cultivates the Nebbiolo vine, introduced into this area directly from Piedmont during the nineteenth century. From its grapes comes Karana, a great red wine that has gained a huge following.
The winery's symbol is the stylized rooster of the Viscontis, the family that in the past led the ancient Giudicato of Gallura. The rooster is reproduced on the labels of the most prized wines of the Cantina Gallura. Obviously, we also find it on the label of Vermentino di Gallura Superiore D.O.C.G. Canayli Cantina Gallura.
This wine is obtained from 100% Vermentino grapes, carefully selected and vinified with the aid of cutting-edge technologies and tools, and it is aged in the cellar and in the bottle for approximately 6 months, before being put on the market.
Let's taste it.
Vermentino di Gallura Superiore D.O.C.G. Canayli Cantina Gallura 2022 is straw yellow in color with evident greenish reflections. On the nose it is broad and intense: we perceive hints of exotic fruit and grapes, with vegetal notes, in particular pepper, and light floral sensations. On the palate it is mineral and savory, full-bodied with a strong alcohol content, characteristic of the Superiore type. All these sensations are in perfect harmony, generating an excellent gustatory balance and giving elegance and finesse to the wine. The finish is typical of Vermentino di Gallura wines, very persistent and slightly bitter.
Due to its body and alcohol content, this is a wine that perfectly accompanies first courses that are not too strong, tasty and important. It is excellent with fish first courses and fresh cheeses.
