Fassati is an estate located in the municipality of Montepulciano, in the province of Siena. Founded in 1913 by the Marquis Fassati, it became one of the most important wineries in Montepulciano. In 1969 the winery expanded its cultivation area, while in 1989 a modern winemaking facility was built near the vineyards. These are the years of the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, D.O.C. since 1966 and D.O.C.G. since 1981, symbol of this territory and main wine of the winery.

In January 2015, Gianni Della Camera, born in Montepulciano and already owner of some vineyards in the area, bought the winery, renovating it and making it one of the most prestigious and extensive realities of the whole territory, with its 101 hectares of land, 89 dedicated to viticulture. Today, Gianni runs the business with the help of his three sons: Giovanni, Tommaso and Francesco.

The vineyards of the winery are located in a hilly area, well exposed, rich in different soils: tufaceous, sandy and clayey. This allows Fassati to grow different vines, depending on the type of soil in which they are best expressed. Not only Sangiovese, but also Mammolo, Canaiolo, Ciliegiolo and international grape varieties such as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The winery has a vinification area with modern tools, has a splendid barrel cellar with Slavonian oak barrels, with capacities from 20 to 155 hectoliters, and French barriques for aging and has its own bottling system.

The winery's production focuses on the typical wines of Montepulciano: Rosso di Montepulciano and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Among these, the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano "Pasiteo" is considered the main product of the winery.

Obtained from Sangiovese grapes, with a small percentage of Merlot grapes, this wine is subjected to malolactic fermentation at a controlled temperature and to a long aging, first in oak barrels and then in barrique.

We tasted the 2017 vintage, after giving it the time it needed to evolve ...

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano "Pasiteo" Fassati

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano D.O.C.G. "Pasiteo" Fassati 2017 shows a deep ruby red color with reflections tending to garnet, the result of long aging. The bouquet of aromas is complex, rich and varied: fruity notes of black cherry, floral notes of violet, typical of the grape, enriched by hints of acacia honey, spicy vanilla and ethereal and woody sensations. The taste is full and round, elegant and with very soft tannins, supported by a good structure and alcohol content, not excessive. The finish is long and persistent, with fruity sensations and notes of undergrowth.

To be paired with roasted red meat or, due to its non-invasive structure and alcohol content and innate elegance, with tasty white meats.

For those who want a valuable bottle of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano ... Consider that the price at which it is on sale is really advantageous compared to wines of the same type and of similar quality.
