This wine comes from a careful selection of grapes of the Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio varieties from ancient vines, owned by the company, located on the slopes of the Etna volcano. The fermentation takes place in steel and the aging in barrique for at least twelve months, then the wine rests for a long period before being bottled. The particular soil, lava, stony and rich in minerals, gives this wine peculiar characteristics. The color is ruby red, the aroma is intense, the taste is dry, full with mineral and spicy notes reminiscent of the volcanic soil of origin. Contains sulphites. Produced by Azienda Agricola e Vitivinicola AMPELON S.r.l. - Contrada Calderara, snc - 95036 Randazzo (CT) - Italy.

The producer
Barbara and Valter Gazzotti, husband and wife, in the early 2000s, find in the towns of Randazzo and Castiglione di Sicilia, on the northern slope of Etna, between 650 and 750 meters above sea level, ancient vineyards of Nerello Mascalese, Carricante and Cataratto, native of the territory and in prevalent state of abandonment. Following the acquisition of six hectares of land, they founded the Ampelon company in 2009. The vines of over sixty years impose a complex management of the vineyards, mainly manual, that Barbara and Valter, lead in first person. The absence of chemical agents, harmful to man and the environment, and low yields per hectare, give rise to grapes with perfect ripeness and a wide, concentrated and elegant organoleptic potential. The result of the enormous efforts in the vineyard, combined with a linear vinification without invasive interventions, are wines that best reflect the territory.
