"Serra de' Gatti" is a wine made only from Barbera grapes. The grapes are grown in respect of biodynamic principles. The harvest takes place in late September, the wine ferments for 18 days in stainless steels. The barrel ageing lasts about six months and the bottled maturing four months. The colour is deep ruby red with violet tones, the bouquet is aromatic, fruity and spicy, the taste is tannic, round and structured. To understand fully the philosophy behind this wine don't miss the video about Cascina Val del Prete made by Pietro Plaia. Contains sulphites. Produced by Cascina Val del Prete - Strada santuario, 2 - 12040, Priocca d’Alba, Cuneo, Piemonte - Italy.

The producer

Cascina Val del Prete or valley of the priest takes its name from the exiled Bishop of Asti who lived there in 1850. In 1977 Bartolomeo Roagna and his wife Carolina bought the farm "Val del Prete" where they had worked as sharecroppers. The first thing did was replace some grain and fruit with vines. The grapes were planted on south facing slopes in a splendid natural amphitheater. Over the years they increased the area under vine. Their sons , Mario and Luigi, have entered the family business and have taken care of the vineyards. Cascina Val del Prete continues to be well managed thanks to Mario’s commitment to great wine.

Best with

Excellent with important dishes, as braised and stuffed red meats, and with mature or spicy cheeses.

How to serve it

It is advisable to open the bottle several minutes before and serve at 18-20 degrees centigrade. The best glasses to use are clear, transparent crystal goblets.

How to keep

It is a wine with a remarkable ability to improve with age. The bottles should be laid horizontally in a cool, dark, humid wine-cellar.

Good BarberaReview by Philippe
Quality
A good Barbera, spicy and full-bodied. The structure is powerful. On the palate it is velvety. Excellent service and delivery time in Italy. (Posted on 9/27/2024)
