This wine is the valued result of the careful and exclusive selection of Nebbiolo variety grapes, which are grown in the "Ginestra Vigna del Gris" vineyard, owned by the company. The vineyard, which faces south-south-west, is situated 280 meters above sea level in the municipality of Monforte d'Alba. The maceration is a result of contact with the grapeskins in wine-making equipment with rotating blades. The wine is then aged, 50% in small oak barrels, 50% in oak vats and refined in the bottles for twelve months. It is a grainy red colour with an orange reflection and has a characteristic bouquet that is delicate, elegant and ethereal, reminiscent of red fruit and spices. It has a full, dry, robust, velvety, austere and well-proportioned taste. It is nearer the typology of the so-called Baroli, delicate and elegant. Contains sulphites. Produced by Azienda Agricola Conterno Fantino - Via Ginestra, 1 - 12065, Monforte d'Alba - Italy.
The producer
The company was formed in 1982 out of a partnership between Claudio and Diego Conterno and Guido Fantio. This partnership brought together new ideas about land management skills and winery techniques. Claudio and Diego concerned themselves with the vines while Guido took responsibility for the winery. In 1994 the company took up residence in Bricco di Bastia in Monforte d'Alba in a panoramic position which looks out on the wide arc of the Piedmontese Alps. Since the formation of the company special attention has been paid to the quality of the wine produced, and, as a result of the skill, diligence and dedication of its owners, the company is now one of the leading wine producers in Piedmont.
Best with
This wine is the perfect accompaniment for roasts and braised meat. It is excellent with fondue, truffles and parmesan cheese.
How to serve it
It is recommended to uncork the bottle three or four hours before drinking. The wine should be served at 18 - 20 degrees centigrade. The best glasses to use are clear, transparent crystal goblets.
How to keep
This wine can be aged for more than thirty years if it is kept in an optimal environment. The bottles should be laid horizontally in a cool, dark, humid wine-cellar.
