This wine comes from a careful selection of grapes of the Carricante and Catarratto varieties from vines, owned by the company, located on the slopes of the Etna volcano. The fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel, then the wine rests for a long period before being bottled. The particular soil, lava, stony and rich in minerals, gives this wine peculiar characteristics. The color is straw yellow, the aroma is intense, the taste is dry with mineral and fruity notes of citrus fruits and almonds that recall the volcanic soil of origin. Contains sulphites. Produced by Azienda Agricola e Vitivinicola AMPELON S.r.l. - Contrada Calderara, snc - 95036 Randazzo (CT) - Italy.

THE REVIEW OF ETNA BIANCO AMPELON BY LUCA STROPPA

READ THE ARTICLE BY LUCA STROPPA ON ETNA DOC WINES

The producer

Barbara and Valter Gazzotti, husband and wife, in the early 2000s, find in the towns of Randazzo and Castiglione di Sicilia, on the northern slope of Etna, between 650 and 750 meters above sea level, ancient vineyards of Nerello Mascalese, Carricante and Cataratto, native of the territory and in prevalent state of abandonment. Following the acquisition of six hectares of land, they founded the Ampelon company in 2009. The vines of over sixty years impose a complex management of the vineyards, mainly manual, that Barbara and Valter, lead in first person. The absence of chemical agents, harmful to man and the environment, and low yields per hectare, give rise to grapes with perfect ripeness and a wide, concentrated and elegant organoleptic potential. The result of the enormous efforts in the vineyard, combined with a linear vinification without invasive interventions, are wines that best reflect the territory.

Best with

An easy drink, ideal with fish-based nibbles, or for wine lovers sharing a toast at the beginning of a meal.

How to serve it

The wine should be served at 15 degrees centigrade in clear, transparent crystal goblets.

How to keep

The bottles should be laid horizontally in a cool and dark wine-cellar.

A white wine with great minerality, very pleasant on the palate. It is balanced with an almond finish. I really like volcanic wines. (Posted on 2/16/2024)

I took advantage of the offer reserved for subscribers to the newsletter to buy this white wine of Etna volcano at a very low price, even lower than the cellar price. I like wine for its strong minerality. I love these offers that reward regular customers. (Posted on 6/19/2023)

I didn’t know there were wines produced from grapes grown on the slopes of Etna. I discovered this thanks to Wineshop.it and I decided to try this wine. Very pleasant with a marked minerality like that of volcanic soils. 5 stars! (Posted on 3/9/2023)
