This white wine is Denomination of Origin Controlled and Guaranteed (D.O.C.G.) and is made from Vermentino, a grapevine that grows to its best effect in the Gallura area of Sardinia. It has a brilliant straw-yellow colour with greenish reflections. The aroma is highly original, full and intense, and reminiscent of the grapes themselves with a refreshing hint of green pepper. The characteristic taste is dry, full and warm, due to its strength and consistent character. It is very well-balanced and its good structure makes it a particularly fine and elegant wine. Contains sulphites. Produced by Cantina Gallura - Via Val di Cossu, 9 - 07029, Tempio Pausania (OT) - Sardegna - Italy.
THE REVIEW OF VERMENTINO DI GALLURA SUPERIORE CANAYLI CANTINA GALLURA BY LUCA STROPPA
The producer
There has been a cockerel on the label of Visconti's wines since 1956. Although these wines come from Pisa, the company is run by the same people who used to manage Giudicato di Gallura vineyards and offers an indication of the extent to which the wines of the Cantina di Gallura are valued. The company, which is located at the foot of Mount Limbara, gathers grapes that are exclusively Gallurese in origin and has produced a good series of D.O.C. wines from the Vermentino species of grapevine, which have recently earned the classification D.O.C.G, the maximum indication of quality. This company is without a doubt one of the best wine-makers in Sardinia.
Best with
This wine is at its best with first courses as long as they are not excessively seasoned, seafood risotto, fish dishes with sauces and fresh soft cheeses.
How to serve it
The wine should be served at 10 degrees centigrade in clear, transparent crystal goblets.
How to keep
This is not a wine that will improve with age and should therefore be drunk within a maximum of two to three years of purchase. The bottles should be laid horizontally in a cool, dark, humid wine-cellar.
